Flexible Tailored Training

City of Dublin ETBs Employer Engagement Unit works with employers and enterprises to support them in ensuring their businesses can keep apace in an ever-changing environment.  City of Dublin ETB can provide access for employers to our existing suite of high-quality education opportunities through on-line learning, part-time and evening provision.  We can also work with companies to develop flexible bespoke and tailored training solutions for their individual needs.

Traineeships

City of Dublin ETB hosts a broad range of Traineeship Programmes in many of its centres across the city. Traineeship Programmes combine learning in the classroom and experience in real work and industry environments.  On successful completion, participants gain certification and improve their employability outcomes while Employers have access to a pipeline of skilled potential employees.   The duration of a Traineeship Programme is determined by the requirements of the sector in terms of the knowledge, skills and competence to be acquired for the identified occupation.  In collaboration with employers, Traineeship programmes have been developed to address an identified skills gap in areas such as Logistics, Hospitality, Dental Nursing and Beauty. 

Skills to Advance

Through the Skills to Advance Initiative, City of Dublin ETB can offer accredited training courses to employers across a variety of sectors to enhance and develop the skillset of employees.  We have supports available for small and medium-sized enterprises who may need some assistance to invest in and develop their workforce; such as completing a skills audit which will identify specific skills deficit for your company.  For qualifying companies there is no monetary costs for Skills to Advance training programmes.

Building on our long and proud history of collaborating with employers to meet the needs of industry in the area of craft apprenticeships such as Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry & Joinery we have expanded our apprenticeship offering to the following new areas; Auctioneering and Property Services, Accounting Technician, Commis Chef, Hairdressing, ICT Associate Cyber Security, ICT Network Engineering, ICT Associate Software Development Network Engineering and Sales.

Auctioneering and Property Services Apprenticeship

City of Dublin ETB is the coordinating provider for the Auctioneering and Property Services Apprenticeship. This nationally accredited work-based programme was designed to meet employers’ needs in the Auctioneering, Estate Agency, Property Management and Property Letting sector. Apprentices learn while on the job for four days per week and attend college one day per week in either Ballsbridge College, Cork College of Commerce or Athenry, Galway and Roscommon ETB. On completion of the two-year programme apprentices gain a recognised professional qualification at Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and are eligible to apply for a Property Services Regulatory Authority (PSRA) licence.

Accountant Technician Apprenticeship

This two-year Apprenticeship Programme is aimed at students who are interested in pursuing a career in Accounting Finance.  Apprentices are taught key accounting concepts, principles of accounting and the knowledge and skills required to understand personal and business taxation regulations.  They will gain an understanding of core business functions in management, marketing and law.  Apprentices are schooled in the modern accounting practices which qualifies them as professional Accounting Technicians.

Commis Chef Apprenticeship

The Commis Chef Apprenticeship is the starting point for a career as a professional chef.  It is a formal structured two-year education and training programme incorporating periods of off-the-job knowledge and skills development in a college and work-based knowledge and skills development in an approved hotel or restaurant kitchen.  Throughout the programme apprentices will develop the underpinning theory science and culinary skills in a college and refine and perfect these competencies to a professional standard while working under the direction of qualified and experienced chefs in the kitchens of SOLAS approved hotels and restaurants.

Hairdressing Apprenticeship

The Hairdressing Apprenticeship programme is being hailed as a flag ship standard for the Irish Hairdressing industry as it is the first nationally recognized hairdressing qualification in Ireland.  The aim of the programme is to develop a skilled pool of talent that will meet the growing needs of the hairdressing industry.  Apprentices will develop the skills required to shampoo, condition, cut and style hair.  They will become competent at identifying hair and scalp conditions and recommend appropriate treatments.  Communication skills and the ability to develop good customer relations will be cultivated.  Knowledge on the use of modern, computerized tools and equipment found in the modern salon is part of the training along with basic computer skills form part of this new and innovative apprenticeship programme.

Hairdressing Apprenticeship

 

I-Fit – Ireland’s Females in Tech

This exclusive two-year programme aimed at females at the heart of Dublin’s “Silicon Dock” equips women with the tech know-how to carve out a successful career in a thriving industry.  This first fully-fledged female apprenticeship is a pioneering approach to boosting participant and showcasing untapped talent.  The programme aims to engage female tech enthusiasts whilst measuring the social capital generated from educating, empowering and employing women at the heart of the community.  On completion apprentices will have acquired the tech skills and qualifications to commence a successful ICT career.

FIT – Cyber Security

The Cyber Security two-year Apprenticeship Programme will provide Apprentices with the theory and practical skills required for Apprentices to be employed as Cybersecurity specialists.  On successful completion of the programme, the Apprentice will have developed the knowledge and experience to establish multi layers of protection across computers, networks, programmes and data to create an effective defence against a cyber attack.  On successful completion, the Apprentice will achieve a QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Cybersecurity.

FIT - Network Engineer

The primary role of a network engineer it to design, install, maintain and support communication networks within an organisation or between organisations.  A Network Engineer Apprentice will develop the skills necessary to provide maximum performance and availability for their users; staff, clients, customers and suppliers alike.  They will be given training to understand and work in areas such as network configuration, cloud, network administration, security and performance management.  Working as part of a team, the Apprentice will develop communication skills, knowledge and competence to be able to offer technical advice and guidance to the end user.

Network Engineer Apprenticeship

 

FIT – Software Developer

This two-year Apprenticeship Programme will offer apprentices the opportunity to develop skills to build and test high-quality code across front end, logic and database layers. As an ICT Associate Professional Software Developer the apprentice will typically work as part of a larger team, in which they will have responsibility for some of the straightforward elements of the overall project.  While the customer requirements will typically be defined and agreed by more experienced or specialist members of the team, the apprentice will develop the skills required to interpret design documentation and specifications. Examples of such work include information databases, programs that control robotic systems and cloud and mobile applications.

Sales Apprenticeship

This two-year apprenticeship programme will offer apprentices the opportunity to develop skills to become committed, adaptable and ambitious employees in the sales sector.  It is strongly grounded in practical on-the-job work-based learning supported by off-the-job learning in face-to-face workshops and an online learning environment.  Upon successful completion of the programme the apprentice will achieve a Level 6 Major Award – an Advance Certificate in Sales and also have gained a range of relevant skills, knowledge and competencies necessary to embark on a career as a sales specialist.  It is open to a wide range of employers, across all industry sectors, in both large and small firms.

Craft Apprenticeships

A Craft Apprenticeship is a standards-based education training programme which generally consist of seven phases, three off-the job and four on-the-job.  To become a Craft Apprentice a person must first obtain employment in their chosen craft with an employer who has been approved by Solas to provide workplace training for apprentices.  A Craft Apprenticeship typically is four years in duration.   Both Ballyfermot Training Centre and Finglas Training Centre offer a wide range of Craft Apprenticeships form Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry & Joinery, Sheet Metal and Motor Mechanic.  For further information or to register for a Craft Apprenticeship please click on the links below:
